Memramcook wins the first NESHL Championship!

The Memramcook « Maisons Levesque » Acadiens have been crowned the NESHL Champions with a 5-4 win tonight against the Tracadie-Sheila Alpines. They won the cup in five games.

Anders Frees officially started this bout after scoring on a nice individual play while there was a delayed penalty. Pierre-Paul Landry answered right back two minutes later after scoring a shorthanded goal. Frederic Doucet placed Tracadie-Sheila in the lead with a powerplay goal. Less than a minute later, Mathieu Betournay even things up and after one period the score was 2-2.

In the second fans had to wait at the twelve minutes mark to see some offense. Scott Hickey shot the puck past Austin who surely wish he could see that shot again. Tracadie-Sheila managed to tie things up again after Michel Losier scored on a really nice feed from Remi Doucet.

In the third period, Mathieu Betournay scored a big shorthanded goal early in the period. Jason Cormier added one more goal for Memramcook after shooting the puck past Austin. With a bit over three minutes left, Daniel Basque placed Tracadie-Sheila within one with a powerplay goal. A penalty from Frederic Doucet would force the Alpines to play the final two minutes while being shorthanded.

Sylvain Rodier has been named the playoff most valuable player for Memramcook.

Congratulations to the Memramcook “Maisons Levesque” Acadiens for this nice accomplishement. The league would like to congratulate the Tracadie-Sheila Alpines for the nice effort.

Memramcook one win away from Championship

The Memramcook « Maisons Levesque » Acadiens took a serious option on the NESHL Championship last night as they won the fourth game of the series 7-4 against the Tracadie-Sheila Alpines. With this win, Memramcook is now 3-1 into the final.

Sylvain Rodier decided to get things going early as he scored 26 seconds into this one. A minute later, Betournay would make it 2-0 for the locals on a shorthanded goal. Tracadie-Sheila didn’t give up and scored three goals before the end of the first. Frederic Doucet, Ulysse Brideau and Daniel Basque made it 3-2 for Tracadie-Sheila after one.

Midway in the second period, Memramcook would score two quick goals from the stick of Dillen Theriault and Jules Melanson, this gave back the lead. Sylvain Rodier scored again before the end of the second and Memramcook was now up 5-3 after fourty minutes.

In the third, Rodier completed his hat trick midway into the period. Frederic Doucet scored his second goal of the night with 3 minutes left but it was too late for the Alpines. Jules Melanson ended the show with an empty net goal.

There is some congestion in the playoff league leader column. With a four points night Mathieu Betournay is now back in the lead with 26 points. Whis his three goals night, Rodier is now tied with McGraw for the second spot with 25 points.

Tracadie-Sheila will have to win the next three games if they wish to be crowned as the league champion. This is easier said than done since Memramcook has an impressive 10-3 run in the playoffs so far. The Acadiens will try to get the job done this Sunday in Tracadie-Sheila. The fifth game of this serie will start at 6:30PM.

TRACADIE-SHEILA: Frederic Doucet 2-0, Daniel Basque 1-0, Ulysse Brideau 1-0. MEMRAMCOOK: Sylvain Rodier 3-0, Jules Melanson 2-1, Mathieu Betournay 1-3, Dillen Theriault 1-0.
